Welcome to Professor Philip C. Sookram’s version of an introductory financial accounting course, a learning experience delivered by the Saint Peter’s University Frank J. Guarini School of Business in collaboration with the Saint Peter’s University O’Toole Library:
- Prof. Sookram adapted / remixed the first five chapters of an existing OER OpenStax Principles of Financial Accounting and Principles of Managerial Accounting textbook and segmented the chapters into eight smaller accounting learning modules. The original authors are listed below
- These free learning modules were created with the intent of introducing (or reintroducing) the basics of accounting, known as “the language of business.”
- These eight modules were designed to be completed in 45 days, devoting 15-20 minutes of studying each day
In October 2024, this project was awarded the 2024 NJCPA Ovation Award in the Innovation Category (click here to read press release)
- Sookram’s initiative was funded by the U.S. Department of Education under the Title V Grant, “Ensuring Success for the New Majority Student.” This program provides faculty with stipends, training sessions, a collaborative learning community and access to Pressbooks, empowering them to adapt or create open textbooks that enhance student engagement and reduce educational costs.
