Footnote 1
In a subsequent section of this chapter, you will learn that the accounting profession is governed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (or FASB), a professional body that issues guidelines/pronouncements for the accounting profession. A set of theoretical pronouncements issued by FASB is called Statement of Financial Accounting Concepts (SFAC). In SFAC No. 6, FASB defines revenues as “inflows or other enhancements of assets of an entity or settlements of its liabilities (or a combination of both) from delivering or producing goods, rendering services, or other activities that constitute the entity’s ongoing major or central operations” (SFAC No. 6, p. 23).
